In a swift operation to protect India's maritime boundaries, the Indian Coast Guard detained two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers and arrested 35 fishermen who had crossed into Indian waters in the Bay of Bengal. The trawlers, named Sabina-1 and Rupashi Sultana, were spotted yesterday during routine patrol. Sabina-1 had 11 fishermen on board, while Rupashi Sultana carried 24 Bangladeshi fisherman and all were accused of illegal entry and fishing without permission, highlighting ongoing efforts to stop unauthorized activities in Indian territorial waters.
The Indian Coast Guard brought the detained trawlers and fishermen to Fraserganj fishing harbour and were then handed over to the Freserganj coastal police station, who formally arrested the 35 individuals on charges of trespassing. Bengal Police have started questioning them to understand how and why they entered Indian waters. Such incidents often happen due to rich fish stocks in the area, but they raise concerns about border security.
The arrested fishermen has been produced in Kakdwip court today. This event is part of frequent cross-border fishing issues between India and Bangladesh, where fishermen from both sides sometimes stray across the international maritime line. Authorities continues to strengthen patrols to prevent such violations and ensure safety at sea.
